Hochburg designs what Schönherr paints.

Exhibitions from Hechingen to New York and back again, with a stop as a master student under Professor Markus Lüpertz: The artist Dietmar Schönherr wears a hat and wields a brush – and he does both very well. His core theme in painting is alienated, bizarre human images – surreal, expressive, occasionally accompanied by an abstract, entirely individual cosmos of painting between everyday life, fantasies, and dreams. No matter what he ultimately brings to the canvas, even an art novice can quickly recognize: That’s a true Schönherr.

He showcased his oeuvre at a vernissage in the Hochburg spaces. Quickly, the idea was in the room: a true Schönherr, with such great and versatile potential, needs a genuine, striking selfish identity. One that breaks with the common representations of the art scene – often everything in black and white, thoughtful, reserved, hello, I’m very intellectual. No, it can happily pop with a refreshing touch of self-irony. The result: Hochburg designs what Dietmar Schönherr paints. Here, acrylic on canvas. There, color codes on paper and screen. Here, the painter's handwriting. There, the designers' adaptation: a disruptive trademark for a disruptive artist.

The painter becomes a brand. The essential element is “The Dietman,” a royal navy blue icon, a playful mascot. A few distinctive, hand-drawn, rough strokes symbolize Dietmar Schönherr himself and his artistic matrix. Pure impact. Bold typography meets fine accents in a stamp-like style within a modular corporate design that can be played out from minimalist and calm to exuberant and wild—just like the portfolio of the man with the hat. Every single element immediately screams art while breaking away from the usual art circus.

The additional color set, based on a refined and striking dusty rose and luxurious gold, works seamlessly across all visuals — tested live in his studio. This extends to image brochures, catalogs, business cards, Instagram presets, and soon the new website, which Hochburg will still develop. Hello Art Basel, here I am, Dietmar Schönherr. May I present you my merchandise? The other artists are already watching. Then Hochburg has achieved everything. With a project that was a lot of fun. Art meets agency. A connection that makes sense. And one that will continue to grow.
